Welcome fishing reports on White Springs

This web site was created in Nov 2005, heres the first report ever written for this site for 2nd December 2005, unfortunately there's not a lot to report as the lakes were frozen over, with the start of a bitter hard frost for the start of the winter which also saw some snow.

There were some carp anglers fishing a night session, the evening it snowed and they had to abandon their session as the lakes froze over.

Before this hard freeze Allen Files and David Giles had done well with several carp to 11lbs and bream to 5lbs

The only lake not to suffer the weather was the pleasure lake, this is due to the fact that it is supplied from the well and the spring water is at a constant temperature all year round. The canals saw anglers working hard to break swims, only to see their efforts seem fruitless as their swims refroze over as they attempted to fish.

The match that was held last Sunday was moved onto the pleasure lake with Malcom Carpenter the overal winner with a bag of 14lb 8oz mix of small roach and carp.

SECOND REPORT WEEKENDING DEC 11TH 2005

With the milder weather after last weeks freeze fishing was some what better. Welsh international Rithchie Powell took some time out to fish on the pleasure lake, using a pole and rubber bands he produced a 14lb carp,

15 year old Tom Steven's a carp angler having had two thirty plus carp on the last visit decided to join Ritchie with his mate Rubin Salom and they both produced a double out of the pleasure lake to 13lbs click here to view

The canal was fishing well with Nick Boyle landing a 2lb 12oz perch in a 34lb mixed bag caught mid water, his method was a worm and maggot over a bed of the white springs special blend of spicy mix ground bait.

White Spring saw two winter matches both were held on Sunday 11th. One being the final match for the fish4wales series held at White Springs click here for results. The winner of this match being Geoff P with a 14lb 12oz bag click for Geoff's tips and method.

Meanwhile on the other Match lake the golden peg holder landed a 17lb bag which wasn't good enough as the top weight was 28lb results were Jeff Walker (Llandeilo) 28-0-0 small bream and carp on home made paste pole fished to the edge of the island from peg 6. Mike Eyre (Sensas Nomads) 24-6-0; Peter Williams (Swansea) 20-4-0; Stan Crowley (Sensas Nomads) 17-0-0; Kevin Geetch (Cardiff) 11-14-0; Mal Thomas (Merthyr) 11-0-0.

Third report for December 2005 on this web page. The xmas report

Below is the  XMAS report.

With the previous week seeing the pleasure lake fishing better than the match lakes.

White Springs was expecting the Match lake, with almost a full house of top match anglers to do well. However for the third week in a row the pleasure lake outproduced the match lake with two rods on the same day as the xmas match bettering the xmas match results. Cardiff' s Mark  Blackmoore caught a 3lb perch and two carp to 8lb in a 38lb bag fishing tight to the margins with caster over maggot

Mark also reported that the peg directly oposite had a Port Talbot angler, who was also fishing the margins and was fishing under the tree overhangs and had landed five carp to six pounds and a 11lb mirror in a 52lb bag

The xmas match results

This was four pegs short of capacity and saw 8 very close bag results all weighing in 15lb plus bags with five cash prizes totalling 340 pounds the final results were eagily waited for,

Best fish of the week from the specimen lake fell to Don Jones off peg 9 fishing to the islands on a worm 29lb Grass Carp.

Despite the Specimen lake freezing over 8 double figure carp to 29lb came out Wednesday 28th December

Fri 30th the rain had cleared all the ice on all the lakes and pegs 1 and 8 on the carp lake have both produced 20lb plus carp.

Report of fishing since December 18th to December 28th 2005

Below is Bevanboy's own account, which he posted on the Fish4Wales site on Dec 19 2005, 10:39 PM

"HAVING JUST SPENT THE LAST TWO DAYS AT WHITE SPRINGS, I THOUGHT I'D PUT UP A REPORT OF SOME SORTS, YESTERDAY WE ARRIVED AT THE PLEASURE LAKE AND ALTHOUGH A SLOW DAY, I MANAGED 6 CARP TO 11LB12oz, 1 BREAM OF AROUND 2LB AND A FEW ROACH, I WEIGHED IN 39LB, CHRIS MY COMPANION, WEIGHED IN 15LB, NOT BAD FOR WINTER EH...... TODAY WE FISHED THE MATCH LAKE, PROBABLY DUE TO THE HARD FROST AND THE XMAS MATCH THERE YESTERDAY WE FOUND IT HARD, TO SAY THE LEAST AND IT WASNT TILL THE LAST HOUR WHEN THE FISH STARTED TO FEED, I WEIGHED A 18LB BAG AND CHRIS WEIGHED IN 7LB SO AGAIN NOT TO BAD A DAY WAS HAD." Fish4Wales click.

As the week went by the weather got colder and colder, the Brynmill match took place on 27th and fishing was slow and hard, with less than 9lb securing the first place win.

1st Brian Bevan 8lb 4-0 pole fished pellet,

2nd Adam Mitchell 6lb 4-0

3rd Peter Spooner 6lb 3-8,

Dave Gough has writen the full results and story of the day's fishing can be found on the Brynmill's own official web site under the News Section, White Springs xmas match here

There was a hard freeze overnight and the lakes quickly froze over. Today Wednesday 28th December the only lake ice free was the pleasure lake which has been very busy as a result as all three match lakes were unfishable.

The specimen lake was 80% frozen over with the specimen anglers either packing up altogether or moving camp onto the pleasure lake as good numbers of carp between 8 and 14lb have been coming out recently as reported previously.

A number of the specimen anglers even took to the boats to try and clear the swims free from ice. But despite the big freeze there was a 29lb carp caught off peg 8 by Martin Mathews followed with a 12lb Ghostie, whilst off the same peg Martin's mate Kevin Thorne could only manage small bream. On the other side of the lake Grant fishing off peg 1 couldn't go wrong landing a few Tuesday night and Wednesday day. Grant landed a 19lb,18lb,16lb,14lb,11lb and a 10lb during this session.

Following Grant's departure Paul from Llandelio moved onto Grant's peg which he had occupied for five days & nights. Using the same bait & method as Grant, Paul landed a 31lb 14oz mirror.
