A BRIEF HISTORY OF THE DEVELOPMENT OF THE FISHERY

On first visit to this picturesque holiday complex found in pontarddulais near swansea, one would never image it was totally man made. EV or Vince as he is more commanly known bought the 35 acre site from the local steel works in 1983. The land consisted mainly of a peat bog and he had wanted to expand his business selling soil, to compliment his already thriving turf and landscaping business.....little did he realise at the time that he was going to embark on a career change.....Vince soon discovered there was a spring well on site, that had been sunk by the steel works in the early 1920's to supply the redundant works nearby.

During the worst drought of the 1980's this spring never dried up and every time he dug a hole on site it would be full of water the next day.....he soon had two picturesque lakes and deciding to semi retire from his professional landscaping buisness, Vince opened his new venture on June 1st 1987 calling it whitesprings. The name coming from the welsh translation of PISTYLLGWYN which was the name of his farm house at the time.....By 1990 he had soon added the impressive buildings that overlook the lakes and valleys giving magnificent panoramic views from the impressive selfcontained holiday shallets .....AND THE REST IS ALL HISTORY

May 2007 report

The week started off quite with fish going deep due to cold wet conditions, which was a sudden change after a couple of warm dry weeks, however towards the end of the week the fish came back onto the feed, especially in the specimen lake with Anthony Edwards landing a 32lb mirror of peg 7, and a west wales angler landing a 29lb 8oz mirror off peg peg 1 fishing tight up the side into the near bank.

Martin Mathews caught two grass carp on worm best at 22lb, whilst on the other side of the lake Dass and Dod from Wolverhampton on their regular monthly visit, landed 3 all over 20lb best weighing 24lb

The same weekend a 3 1/2 lb golden orphe took a tuttie fruity bollie off the pleasure lake, regulars Anita and Alan fished a pleasure session on the match lake  off pegs 13 & 14 emptying their keep nets three times throught the day, because they both had 100lb plus.

The canals also fished well with Chelsea Walton aged 11 years with a 12lb carp off peg 28 on a worm.

Regular Paul Thomas fishing a 48 hour session with his mate landed 12 carp of peg 8 whilst his mate blanked.

Don't forget for the youngsters the premier fisheries youth masters is also being held this year

There's also regular Matches organised by fish4wales forum anglers

here's a report written by Nick Williams more reports with results like this can be found here

Sixteen anglers managed to set their alarm clocks correctly for British summer time and make it to Whitesprings for the second round of the Fish4Wales Spring League 2008 on the Old Canal Lake. We were blessed with glorious sunshine to welcome in spring but the fish for many of the anglers did not wish to oblige, unless of course you drew an end peg. Adam Mitchell drew one of these sporting a new Shimano Aspire Pro pole which he christened today with a fine match winning performance and winning weight of 40lb 9oz including carp to 6lb. Second was Chris Bradley on Wednesdays match winning peg 3 with 32lb 14oz of small stockie carp to 8oz, not to be outdone Adam's brother Gary Mitchell was 3rd from another end peg 19 with 31lb 13oz of carp to 5lb, with club championship leader John Charlesworth taking 4th place with 26lb 9oz of pole caught carp. Next peg to John Gordon Furlong had 17lb, and likewise peg 5 saw Chris Grant with 14lb were the only other anglers to have a good day, the middle section of the lake was a different story with everyone struggling for bites and scratching for fish. Nick Williams won his section with an all roach bag of 7lb 8oz and keep himself in the running for the spring league but with John Charlesworths 4th place overall he opens up a four point gap at the top of the championship.

A better day today for both weather and bites, than last sunday when no fish wanted to play. Nick and Keith caught well all day on pellet fished to the islands on pegs 2 and 3, and for most of the match they were fish for fish.

Until the last 30mins when Keith's bites dried up on 4mm pellet. Nick had switched to 6mm pellet and continued to catch right up to the whistle finishing on 152 small carp for 67lb 1oz.

A good 1st place ahead of Keith, with 56lb 14oz for 2nd. Ieuan Davies taking 3rd place with 30lb 9oz.
NINE ANGLERS TOOK PART AND ALL WEIGHED IN, FULL RESULTS AND PEG NUMBERS CAN BE FOUND ON THE FORUM SITE.
